Comice, Conference and Williams Are Varieties of Which Fruit?

Pears are the ‘forgotten’ fruit and much under-rated. They can be delicious and irresistible, but rarely seemed to be given much attention. Comice, Conference and Williams belong to family pear and are the three pear varieties grafted on a single tree:

Pear ‘Williams’ Bon Chrétien’

Raised in 1770, this is probably the best known and most widely grown pear in the world, suitable for dessert and culinary use. The medium sized fruits have a pale green/golden skin finish. The flesh is sweet, very smooth and extremely juicy.

Pear ‘Doyenné du Comice’

Raised in 1849, this is one of the finest flavored and most popular dessert pears. It produces large green-yellow fruits, sometimes with a red flush. The flesh is smooth and very juicy with a sweet, delicious flavor.

Pear ‘Conference’

Over 100 years old, this is the best known and most popular pear variety in the U.K. The long narrow fruits are firm and juicy with a sweet, pleasant flavor.
